Forever 21 comes to Dublin!!!

While catching up with Facebook yesterday (yep, I hold my hand up to being a bit addicted) I noticed a post from StyleShowIreland which mentioned that US favourite chain-store "Forever 21" is coming to Dublin!!!!

For those of you not in the know, Forever 21 is a US highstreet store akin to Topshop and stocks everything from dresses to jewellery to lingerie and beauty bits and bobs. They also do menswear and plus sizes!
Their store, which is planned to open in Jervis (old Debenhams/ Armott's Project unit) will be the first European outlet and is scheduled to open on 15th November 2010.

I think that the sleeping bag and tent I have dusted off, for any music festivals that take my fancy, will be re-deployed for use for camping outside F21 to get a whole new winter wardrobe!!! Let's just hope they don't lash a big mark-up on the prices...

WANTED!

As most of you know by now, I love nothing more than finding quirky all-kinds-of-everythings :)

I'd love to hear about any interesting blogs/ sites that you know of. Please post links as comments or email me!!!

I'm getting back into using the 'net again and need some online reading/ inspiration/ sites to purchase from :)

A Glowing Reference

According to infamous postman Michael Gallagher of Glenfin, Donegal, we are in for a scorcher of a summer (well a few decent days anyway). I, for one, am planning on making the most of the balmy evenings al fresco, minus the potentially lethal trailing cables of fairy lights etc, so I've splashed out on the most magical of candles - Glowglobes!

These fantastic creations are the brainchild of Larry Kinsella of Moth To A Flame, which is based in Bennettsbridge, Co. Kilkenny.

They come in a whole array of sizes and colours and are very reasonably priced and look amazing both lit and unlit. So far we've tried them indoors and we were wow-wow-wowedm - so we can't wait to get them outdoors!!! I reckon they will last a long time as it appears that the candle inside can be replaced once it's burned down (the candle which is lit is removabe from the bottom half of the "shell").

Fine Ol' Fimo

I've been longing for Lidl to get back in stock those portable oven thingys so that I can make and bake my very own Fimo beads. On a recent trip to the wonderland that is Yellow Brick Road, I came across the most delectable selection of these beads and being the restrained type of shopper that I am (yeah right!) I bought a little (ahem) stash and made what are, in my opinion, the cutest neckalces and bracelets. What says all ye blog-readers???

Definitely MayFly!

During the past week I took some time out of the "9 to 5" and spent some glorious time doing what I do best - shopping!

Due to the roaring success of last summers Maritime Festival and the (not so successful) 12 Days of Christmas Market (sorry folks but the stalls were mainly crap), I took a thought I'd visit what's turning out to be my favourite "stall" ever - MayFly!

MayFly is a great little hidden gem, trading Monday through to Saturday from their premises in 64 Pleasant's Place (behind Camden St, Dublin 8) and Sundays they set up shop in the People's Park in Dun Laoghaire.

They stock fabulous and quirky items which are just up my street! This week I purchased something I've had my beady eye on since first discovering MayFly at the Maritime Festival in 2008 - a cool petticoat - "every girls dream"... Made of 2 layers of chiffon which measure over 35 metres in total - these, in my opinion are a MUST HAVE!

I purchased a rasberry coloured one (€49) for a friend's little girl who turns 2yrs old next week. I think I might be more excited about it than she will be lol :) Below is the picture of the skirt as featured by Cradlerock but I promise to take a picture of my friend's little girl in hers and post it soon :)As Cradlerock state - this trully is an absolute must for any little girl who loves to twirl! I so wish I had the liathroidí to buy the larger size and wear it myself :) I may indulge myself soon and get one - sure I'd definitely get the chance to have an auld boogie in one at an Imelda May concert ;)

Back to MayFly - they stock all sorts of cool clothing for mothers and fathers, lighting, kiddies bits and bobs, not to mention the fab jewellery by http://www.courtneydesigns.ie/. It's definitely, definitely (not maybe) worth a visit! Head along Camden Street (on the right hand side) towards Rathmines, turn right onto Pleasant's Street, take the next right (yes it's a lane way) and you'll discover MayFly! You can always have a peek into the Daintree Paper Shop (on Camden Street, opposite Age Action) and once you've worked your way through there, simply pop out through the back door, call into the Cake Cafe in the courtyard and once you've stocked up on your refreshments stroll on through the courtyard, take a right and there's MayFly!

PS - the staff are extremely helpful!!! I'm applying for more annual leave shortly and taking another trip!

PPS - products are ethical & fairtrade

PPPS - where's your favourite "hidden gem" of a shop - pray do tell!

Make your own Zip Corsage!

Many high street shops are currently selling them at approximately €15 a pop! Well now you can make your own for only the price of two zips!
*Unzip the zips and cut the fastenings off so that you have four pieces.
*Coil one piece around itself to form a tight spiral.
*Secure the outside end to the other layers with a few stitches.
*Take another piece and concertina it to form loops. Loop the end round so that it finishes in a circle and stitch through the layers to hold in place.
*Repeat with the other pieces then stitch them all together to form a rosette.
*Stitch the coiled zip in the centre as shown.
*Sew a safety pin or brooch fastening on to the back and use to vamp up a handbag, a headband, or anything you fancy!

Bib Necklace - my first attempt :-)

True to my word I headed into the local trimming shop this morning and purchased some glittery black felt and those cute little flower shaped sequins/ diamontes! Modelling it on the Penney's version, above is a quick pic of my first attempt at the "Bib" necklace!!! What do you think? I can't believe how easy it was to make! The flower embellishments are actually for card crafting but with little craft glue they worked a treat!
Think I'll be out hunting for more quirky little gems tomorrow and get to work on producing some more with the copious amount of felt I purchased today. I know it's probably cheaper to buy the flet online but I just couldn't wait the obligatory 3-7 days for the felt to arrive; I just had to get crafty today!
Watch this space for more necklaces!!!!
Rain, rain go away, I want to wear the necklace I made today ;-)

More Recession Fashion!

I've been wearing the above necklace for a while now and it's been getting rave reviews (€5 at a Penneys near you, or £3 in your local Primark).

It looks like the "bib" necklace is here to stay for a while yet, and seeing as how Penneys/ Primark's takings are sky rocketing through this recession I've decided to give it a go at making my own :)

Craftystylish have posted an excellent tutorial for those of you interested in having a go at making your own; "How to make a sewn necklace" produced the fab necklace above.

I'll be off to the local supply shops tomorrow to be stocking up on the organza/ felt and ribbons, and searching the sale bins in the old reliable high street stores for any disguarded kaftans etc which I will plunder for their gemstones (cheaper than buying them in trimming shops)!

The necklace above is by Ranjana Khan and retails at $1,200 - need I say more!?!?!

Embellishment your way through the recession!

Ok so we can no longer afford the mountains of clothing we once purchased during those blissful Celtic Tiger days :( But there is nothing stopping us from getting creative with what we already have!!!!
Check out Textile Workshop course that will be running in Pearse Museum, Rathfarnham on Sarurday and Sunday 25/26th July. This course promises to help you create your own bespoke patterns and prints as well as giving you the skills to embellish and produce beautiful homewares, fashion items etc!!!

If, like me, you can only afford either the materials check out these:

Anyone got any good tips or links please please send them on!

I'm Beading Excited!

Good news for all you avid beaders living/ visiting in/ around Dublin city centre!

Today I visited the shop that is beading heaven to me, Yellow Brick Road on Bachelors Walk, to buy some essentials (and non essentials of course!). Pleasant and helphelp staff (as always) wrapped by purchases for me and off I went. When I got home and unwrapped the shiny containers of new beads I also found a little note placed inside advising:

"Free for all! Let's get creative! - Got an unfinished project? Want to chat, bead and be inspired? Want an afternoon's peace to bead in our specially designed studio? We have the answer! The Yellow Brick Road is excited to annouce every Thursday is free for all! Everyone is invited to come along at any stage during the day to get creative with Stacey, all welcome to enjoy a few hours beading, discussing, experimentsing with trends, styles, design and colour! Every Thursday from 28th May!"

Guess who'll be putting in for some leave over the coming weeks to avail of this fab off????

Hope to meet some of you there?!?!

Oooh Jimmy Choo!

My days of hankering after a pair of Jimmy Choo's may be over soon (even though I may not be able to actually walk or stand in them)! H&M are collaborating with the infamous cobblers on an Autum/ Winter '09 collection and are bringing what promises to be a fantastic range of accessories, shoes and handbags to a store near you on 14th November!

Prices are rumoured to range from £30 for a pair of pumps to £170 for a pair of sky-scrappers! I may start working on my balance and get my sleeping bag ready to camp out the night before they go on sale!

I'm in Shoe Heaven....

I thought I had died and gone to Shoe Heaven when I came across Frollein Von Sofa's blog... Having already admitted to being a shopaholic, I must now confess to being a shoe-addict! Just looking at/ trying on and ultimately buying shoes (irrespective of how unsuitable they may be) gives me such a rush!!! I doubt very much that I am on my own in that respect...

This has to be a portrait of me in my "walk in shoe closet" (yeah, well it will be when I win the lotto and get me some highlights - I already have the shoes ;))
Only, if only I could walk in shoes of this height....
Oh and after spending yesterday morning trying on fascinators (for the first time!) these babys are well worth a glance...Isn't the mannequin just the cutest!!!!!
